Shake It Off: SEL With Taylor Swift! In the class, students will listen to Taylor Swift songs and connect them to SEL (Social Emotional Learning) focus areas such as how to be a good friend, self-confidence and more! Each class will have a craft connected to the song we are focusing on that each Swiftie can take home at the end of class! All supplies and materials included. Join Alden P.E. Teacher Doug Backlund for an after school class of PE inspired games, that will be fun but also help to increase your child's athletic ability and fitness. Classes will feature many of our students favorite PE games such as Capture the Flag, Hero Ball, Zombie Tag, Ultimate Frisbee, and Manhunt. Games will take place on Taylor field (Alden School PE field) and in the event of inclement weather, we will move indoors and utilize the PAC lobby and/or the Alden Gym. PLEASE NOTE THAT MR. Coiled Bowl

Coiled Bowls

Do you love to work with clay? Create a one of a kind bowl by rolling different lengths of clay out and using different coil patterns, then fill in with different sizes of balls of clay to create an amazing bowl. First session is to create and second session is to glaze. The instructor will then take the clay creations for firing in the kiln and return them the following week to the Alden main office for pick up. Each session students will work on a different theme, so sign up for one or more sessions. All supplies and materials included. Max students: 12

Do you love to work with clay? Create a house for toads to escape the sun or a fairy house for your fairy garden or special outdoor spot. Home Alone Staying Safe prepares kids in Grades 4-6 for situations that can happen when staying home alone, from the unexpected knock on the door to the 911 emergency phone call. This fun and interactive program covers safety to and from school, phone and food safety, first aid, choking prevention, Heimlich maneuver and street smarts awareness training, basic self-defense techniques and lots of prevention! This class is serious made fun! Min 10 - Max 30. This class is two parts.

INSTRUCTOR: BETTE ANTONELLIS is a licensed practical nurse and a health educator for South Shore Safety. She teaches a variety of health education classes throughout the community.

INSTRUCTOR: DENISE LAIOSA - owner of Norwell Karate, co-founder of South Shore Safety and 5th degree black belt, has taught self-defense classes for the past fifteen years in medical and corporate settings, schools, neighborhoods, recreation centers and shelters.

BEFORE AND AFTER DARK GUIDELINES FOR ALDEN

Grade 3 – 5 After School Programs

COURSE CONFIRMATION - You will receive a course confirmation from Activenet when registering on-line.  When the maximum enrollment is reached, a wait list will be offered. We will contact you directly if a space opens up on the Wait List. If the minimum enrollment is not met, registrants will be notified of the class cancellation and refunded tuition.

DISMISSAL NOTE - Please complete an electronic dismissal form on the Alden School website prior to the start of class for your Alden student indicating the name and dates for the class. 

STUDENTS GO DIRECTLY TO CLASS - At dismissal time, students enrolled in a Before and After Dark class are to walk directly to the classroom/area specified by the course description. 

PICK UP PROCESS - When the class ends, students will be walked to the Alden lobby entrance by their instructor for pick-up outside. Please pick up your child promptly as late fees do apply. If your child is going elsewhere after class (ie. to the library, Extended Day program) or being picked up by someone other than a parent, please send in written permission to the Before and After Dark instructor noting your child's name, the name of the class, and the date(s) permission is granted.  You may also email our office with the information at Duxbeforeandafterdark@gmail.com. 

IF CLASS IS CANCELLED - If an instructor has to cancel an after school class,an announcement is made at Alden telling students that the class is cancelled. A class cancellation email or phone message is also sent to the student’s family. To help avoid confusion, please review (in advance) the contingency plan that your child should follow if an after school class is cancelled.  When Duxbury Public Schools are closed for the day or released early due to poor weather conditions, Before and After Dark classes are cancelled as well.  Families will be notified of arrangements for make-up classes when the schools/Before and After Dark office re-opens.
